In a city where art and design are the driving forces, it makes sense to stay in a hotel that does both of these qualities justice. Let me introduce The Pulitzer Amsterdam; a boutique design hotel in the heart of Amsterdam’s trendiest neighborhood, the Negen Straatjes. Made up of twenty-five 17th and 18th century restored canal houses, it’s a fusion of quintessential Dutch elegance and contemporary style. I flew to Amsterdam for a 2 night trip and made The Pulitzer Amsterdam my base. Here’s the lowdown on this top luxury hotel in Amsterdam…

The Trendiest Address in Town
Before I even reached the entrance of the hotel, Pulitzer Amsterdam had already scored one big tick from me; the location. It’s slap bang in the middle of Amsterdam’s Negen Straatjes neighborhood, otherwise known as The 9 Little Streets.
This trendy patch of town is bustling with artisan coffee shops, stylish boutiques and a perfectly placed bicycle on every corner. The people ooze European style and it definitely feels like a hub for the creative type. If I lived in Amsterdam, I would want to live here! Corner cafes become the perfect place to sit and watch the catwalk of passers by and it feels a million miles away from the infamous and seedier side of town.
Ultimate Design Goals
Being a design hotel, it will come as no surprise when I tell you that the interiors in this place are to-die-for. Think plush furnishings, marble tabletops, local craftsmanship and playful pops of colour. In other words, it’s an Instagrammer’s dream. Every area of the hotel has a unique character and identity but one thing that remains consistent is the impeccable style.
A Plush Room with Canal Views
Overlooking the picturesque Prinsengracht canal, Pulitzer Amsterdam has beautiful waterfront rooms where you can sit at your window and watch the canal boats pass by. We were lucky enough to be allocated one of these rooms, with tall windows and original features. The hotel’s beautiful design elements transcended into the rooms too and the accent colours of lime green, dark teal and purple were a match-made-in-heaven.
Upon arrival in the room we discovered a packet of freshly baked macaroons from the hotel’s bar and two glasses of fruit-infused water. Alongside them sat a handwritten note from the Pulitzer Amsterdam team welcoming us to the hotel and to Amsterdam. Along with bone china teacups, a cafetiere with freshly ground coffee and a plate of wild berries; it felt like a luxurious home away from home.

The Secret Courtyard
One element of the hotel that I really loved was the secret inner courtyard. As the hotel occupies two adjacent rows of canal houses, the inner courtyard space has been transformed into a stylish outdoor living area for hotel guests to enjoy. It feels like a little secret and makes for a tranquil escape from the bustling streets of Amsterdam. Patio heaters and blankets make it warm enough to sit out in the winter, but I can imagine in the summer it really comes alive.
Dining at Jansz
Jansz is Pulitzer Amsterdam’s signature restaurant and we had the pleasure of dining here on our first night in the city. With international flavours, high quality ingredients and an easygoing Dutch attitude, Jansz promises a chic dining experience in the heart of the Negen Straatjes (it’s definitely worth coming here to eat even if you’re not staying at the hotel).
Naomi and I threw on our best dresses and indulged in a three-course meal including burrata, hanger steak and New York cheesecake. Each dish was fresh, flavoursome and incredibly indulgent. It was the perfect girly evening but the low lighting and candlelight would make it a gorgeous date spot for couples.
Jansz is also the hotel’s breakfast restaurant and by day it feels light, bright and airy. There is a delicious breakfast buffet on offer alongside indulgent a la carte options including eggs benedict, scrambled egg on brioche with avocado, French toast with wild berries and of course Dutch pancakes. The breakfast experience at Jansz was of equal delight to the evening meal.
A Wonderful Team
One final thing to mention about Pulitzer Amsterdam was the welcoming and incredibly friendly staff. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed by the helpful door staff and the reception team explained how the concierge were on hand to offer recommendations and help to plan our time in the city. We already had our itinerary mapped out, but it was lovely to feel like we had a bit of local knowledge on our side if we needed it.
The Verdict
In my eyes, Pulitzer Amsterdam ticks every box. The location is perfect, the interiors are on point and the food is wonderful. It’s the best city hotel I’ve stayed in in a very long time, and when I return to Amsterdam again I won’t consider staying anywhere else.
